I have just finished the Geography component of my school cert.

In term 1 we looked closely at Pyrmont/Ultimo region...

I'll give you what i know:

- It was transformed from a run down industrial precint into one of the most desirable places to live in th 21st century.

- By the early 1990s the bulk of the population had gone leaving fewer than 900 residents. This entailed signs of urban decay i.e. Vandalism, ruin, overgrown lots etc.

- Today (My book published in 2003) after 10 years of extensive planning and property redevelopment, Pyrmont/Ultimo is thriving with almost 13, 000 residents... This period was one of extensive urban renewal.

- From what i can gather the biggest phase of urban renewal was between '94 and '04... because that's when the population grew by the single biggest amount.

- To answer your question i think that there was only one stage of urban renewal in Pyrmont/Ultimo.

Hope that helps...
