Need help with Mechanics (1 Viewer)

I'm struggling with Mechanics, a lot. Up until this point I have yet to grasp the concepts involved in the topic. I'm even struggling to do the Mechanic questions in Q3/4 of the HSC papers.

I think my problem is I'm failing to understand where these 'formulas' 'equations' are coming from.

Can someone please give me a brief run down on Mechanics (mainly the resisted motion part of the topic)?
