Hi, I really want to do Optometry in UNSW which the UAI cut-off is 98.05. If i receive these HSC marks from my courses, will i be able to make it?

English ESL 94
Biology 95
Society and Culture 95
Chemistry 86
Mathematics 86
Engineering Studies 80

If I cannot get 98.05, what mark/s do i have to improve upon?

Thanks.

maths and engineering.
pushing all your marks beyond the 90 barrier wouldn't hurt your chances mate

If u can band 6 maths and chem, along with the rest of your subjects (engineering wont count), then u should make it

hey i also wanna do optometry at unsw. but are those subjects well-scaled? coz i do:

4u maths
chem
phy
adv eng
ipt (prolly won't count)

and i'm aiming at 90 for each subject besides eng adv where i'd be lucky to get 85, yet i still think that i'm gonna miss out on the 98. what do u guys say?

anyway good luck to ya

getting all bands 6's doent mean 99+ (highly likely thoz) it really depends on the subs

if you shift maths and chem higher i reckon the uai it be higher so work on those marks

As cyph said, try the UAISeeker

but out of all your subjects...Mathematics is the easiest to get a Band 6 in....if u check last yr's stats, more students got between 90 and 94 in Mathematics than any mark (ie, more students got 90-94 than 75-80 etc)

but the problem is, the stat indicates BOTH ex 1 and 2 U maths people, if you look purely at the 2 U people, i doubt there is any. all the band 6 probably comes from MEX1

say for example u did 12 or 13 units and as we all know the best 10 units are counted towards ur uai mark. if ur crappest mark was extension course would that still count?

ur worst aligned mark may not necessarily equate to ur worst scaled mark. e.g. maths ext 2 - 80 is better than ipt - 81.

what difference does it make? u still do the same course
jus because therre are MEX1 ppl doesnt mean u cannot achieve similar standards

and also, d00d is right
for me, I got 37/50 for 3U maths, and for 1U of physics, I got 41/50...in the end my 37 counted over my 41

Minai, no of course they can achieve a similar result. But they ( 3U people ) are more likely to get in the higher band because they are more capable and hence are doing a higher level of maths than the 2U people.

doing extension subjects doesnt mean you are more capable

No not always, but "generally" it is the case. More to the point "generally" 3U maths students are more capable than 2U. I'm not talking about all extension subjects.
