My prescribed text is Go Back to Where You Came From, which if you are unaware, is a TV show in which regular Australian people 'discover' the tough life of refugees and asylum seekers.

I need a related text though. I have found "Neighbours", by Tim Winton, which is concerned with a very similar idea: it is about accepting and being accepted by immigrants.

Are these two texts too similar? I was originally very happy to learn that I had found a related text that was actually related, and that the textual forms of the texts was different. But I fear that I should perhaps not use "Neighbours" as thematically it is quite similar to GBTWYCF.

Also, what are some suggestions for other related texts? I've found heaps of texts, but they don't relate to GBTWYCF and don't relate to the same rubric points; GBTWYCF relates most to:
  • Confronting and provocative
  • Discoveries vary according to context and vary with perspective
  • Planned discovery
  • New values, understandings, perspectives
  • Make discoveries about people and societies

Advice, suggestions? Thanks.

I think it should be alright to use neighbours by Tim Winton as a related text. However I would recommend that you have 2 related texts for this module to show a greater perspective on discovery (this means you can pick a related text which has a lot of similarities, and contrast it against one that is fairly different.

Maybe look at Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
