i have two computers both with xp and both with network cards on...what is the fastest and best way to network them both...without spending any more money..
Yep, fast, easy, you don't have to spend "that much" in comparison to other methods/alternative ways.Originally posted by JRasnier
Buy a special cat5 cable called cross-over cable....then just plug it into both of your pcs
hey, would i b also able 2 play games, and use printer, share internet etc.?Originally posted by Huy

Great for file sharing between 2 computers, if you have more then it becomes 'a little more' complicated and expensive
is this any different to the one i have:Originally posted by JRasnier

"category 5E, UTP PATCH CORD"???
i don't get it, what is the difference between the two cables??? i mean physically...i imagine they must look very similiar since the crossover cable has to fit at the back of both computers like the network cable did...Originally posted by Huy

I've never had to print through a network before, but I would imagine it works.

You need a cross-over cable.
This is just a standard network cable.

15M $25
M denotes the length in metres (just in case you were confused )
Network cable

shit....i have a probl. now, i used the network cables as if they were cross over and set it up with the wizard etc. for both comps...so what do i do to uninstall??? or can i just plug in a cross over cable when i get it??Originally posted by Winston
appearance side, no difference at all, but it's the wiring inside it that makes a difference, this is the only form of network cable which allows two nodes (PC's) to be networked without the aid of a server or a network hub/switch. As you are obviously setting up a P2P network, that's the cable that actually allows you to do so.

I need a job in the IT industry! Haha, that's just a rip off freaking_out. I wouldn't ask for more than $15 for the required/necessary cabling (with a few metres to spare, in case you need to expand in the future) and $1 for a bottle of water for me
Winston, but Bob IS my uncle!

"No need for cabling"
What are you, setting up a wireless network there? Do you have a 802.11g base station? (54Mbps)
Now who's the ripoff!
You'll be needing at least 2m of cabling, if not 5 for later expansion/future growth. (You might want to host a LAN in the future, who knows, I have about 20m of cabling to spare on each node/computer)
