Now who's the ripoff! :D

You'll be needing at least 2m of cabling, if not 5 for later expansion/future growth. (You might want to host a LAN in the future, who knows, I have about 20m of cabling to spare on each node/computer) :)
w00t 802 all the way man

Strange, if you are sharing the internet, then one machine must be hosting/serving the Internet to the second.

Are you able to ping the other computer? (Assuming you can access the Internet from the wireless computer, how can you not be able to see it in My Network Places?).

Open Windows Explorer, or My Computer, in the address bar, type the name of your computer (that you wish to view, ensuring that the computer has files to share, and has shared folders).

If your computer name is "Ezzy85", and you want to connect to your second computer, named "Ezzy86" then you would type, from Ezzy85:

\\Ezzy86\

See how that goes :)

havent tried pinging it but ive used netsend with it. in network places theres a LAN icon which is the connection. but its constantly connected and you cant change anything there. i tried adding a new connection and where it says to specify a location, i click browse and try searching for the host. in that screen, i cant find the host.

If net send works, ping will work :) So you're able to connect to the Internet through the host machine, and you've said that you're able to enable print sharing, so the network itself doesn't have any problems.

Have you tried right-clicking a folder and selecting "sharing and security"? Then enabling file-sharing. Also, you should turn off SFS, or Simple File Sharing. (I assume you are using Windows XP).

Open Windows Explorer, or My Computer (any window to browse files).

Tools (up top), Folder Options
(You can also access folder options via Control Panel)
View

Use Simple File Sharing
Untick this option, and see if you are able to view the other PC.

Also, you can Map Network Drives
To do this:

Tools
Map Network Drive...
This will bring up a wizard, and it'll create another drive on your machine, call it X:\ or Y:\ (whatever, it is up to you), and click Browse...

Expand My Network Places
+ Entire Network
---+ Microsoft Windows Network (or equivalent)
------+ \\Ezzy88 (for example)

See if you can find any files/folders there, which are shared\observable. :)

There is also a lot in MBBS degrees.

If not, I can always fall back on Comp Sci (Adv) or something along the lines of Engineering/Sci, if not Med Sci (one of my preferences :))

That's why I'm here, freaking_out. I prefer the IPT forum, because I have a more 'whollistic' understanding of the HSC course than I do with 'broad/general' IT stuff ;)

I also have lots of experience in helping people, and it's all on my UNSW/Med CV, don't you worry. :)

ok right click on My Network places

the computer that hosts the internet connection then go to properties, there should be a connection called

Local Area Connection

that should be for your network

and the other one i wouldn't no but it should be for your Internet, right click on that connection go to properties, then go to the Internet Connection Sharing tab, tick the box and apply or OK whatever that should have fixed it

your network should be functioning fairly well

do you have msn? contact me on it

Windows XP does have some difficulties with networking Two computers however most of the time it works fine...

Just a question Huy... in IPT do you learn a bit about networking??

Cause I have just finished my Cisco CCNA Sem 1 and 2 and one of my friends was talking about some basic network stuff that I learn in Cisco as part of the IPT course (e.g topologies, hubs, switches etc)

ANyways networking is mad... specially programming routers... i love it... :)

yep, we do.

networks
terminals
nodes
LANs
WANs
packet switching
topologies (star, bus, ring)
ethernet, token ring
servers
NICs
routers, switches
servers (file, print, mail, web)
bridges, gateways
hubs, repeaters,

then you've got your typical transmission media:
twisted pair/UTP, STP, coaxial, fibre optic, baseband, broadband, microwave, satellite, wireless LANs, mobile, and that leads into areas like network software, network administration, network operating systems, logon/logoff, to intranets and the internet.

so yes, we do learn about networks and all the rest of it in IPT :)

We learnt that too... LOL!
Well, it's in the textbook but it isn't really "tested/examined", in fact, i havent even seen a question on it, but we've read about it and talked about it etc

design of systems,
human centred, machine centred
health/safety
ergonomics, rsi, eyestrain, headaches, backache, fatigue, muscle pain,
furniture
seats, chairs, lighting, air con/temperatures
keyboard height, screen angle, software design (minimise movement, easy to use, improve speed, ergonomically designed, blah blah)

:p
