If you're planning on playing high end games, I'd buy a slower processor and use the money to buy a better videocard: X800GTO 16 / 6800GS / 7800GT etc. An X700 would considerably bottleneck a 3800+.

Otherwise, it looks fairly good. How were you planning to use it?

Thanks for your advice equiski. I plan to use it mostly for simple tasks like web-browsing and work-processing. But I also want to play the occasional game and do some video/image/sound editing. Does the X700 really matter with what I plan to use it for?

The X700 is fine for all the tasks you listed there. Gaming would be the biggest issue, depending on what games you intend to play and at what settings. Infact, for tasks such as word processing and such, even integrated graphics would do you justice.

If you're intending to play relatively new games, especially from the First Person Shooter genre, I'd get something a bit better than the X700 to compliment that A64 3800+, especially if you want them to look good. Now the X700XT pretty much is at parity with the 6600GT, and already that card isn't shaping up so well for longevity nowadays (if you play graphically demanding games). And remember, we're talking about an X700XT vs. 6600GT, you've just listed down a vanilla X700, not a PRO or an XT.
