Pretty much every newspaper in Australia is backing the coalition for re-election. No major newspapers have decided to support Mark Latham which must be considered a major blow at this stage in the campaign.

The main reasons for backing the coalition are Mark Latham's inexperience and tendency to make bad policy on the run, combined with the coalition's good record of economic management.

Unusually the Sydney Morning Herald has decided to be "independent" from now on and not back any candidates, however its stablemates of The Age and the Financial Review are backing the Coalition. All of the News Limited papers are backing the coalition.

Not that any of your links or my links mean much. And it's obvious that all of the News Limited publications would back Howard.
Not necessarily, they do back the ALP from time to time if they see that their policies are right. I know Rupert Murdoch was pretty keen on the Iraq was though which probably sent them away from the ALP.

The Canberra Times hardly matters though because it only covers Canberra and there are only two seats there which are safe Labor.

The Melbourne Times is also a Fairfax pro-labor.
They all have private agendas...
