A lot of research on IMDB perhaps? I don't see how you can predict Jlo to win best actress really, she's the best of the popstars turned actors, but that certainly doesn't make her oscar calibre. Nor do I think Jim Carrey will be recognised for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It's been very well received by critics and audiences alike, but ultimately Carrey won't win simply because he isn't well enough recognised as a serious actor. The film also won't be adquetly recognised because it's a Kaufman movie, and they're just a little too creative for the academy's tastes. Jim Caviezal also won't win because The Passion of the Christ was just way too controversial, and hence not Oscar material.

I'd be interested in your methodology in breaking this down considering the fact that you haven't seen a single one of these films, perhaps Dogville and The Passion of the Christ excepted. I'm guessing the only way is to read synopses of each film and gauge it based a combination of how closely it fits with the oscar winning formula, the subject matter of each film, and the reputation of the actors.

Anyway I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the academy will decide to compensate Bill this year and give him best actor in recognition of his Bob Harris in Lost in Translation. I felt it was a fair bit better than Sean Penn's Jimmy in Mystic River.
It seems to be a year of big remakes to big movies. Dawn of the Dead, The Ladykillers and of course The Manchurian Candidate all being remade for the first time, and Phatom of the Opera is getting yet another remake (well.. there have been a few film versions). Ultimately the remake status of these films will no doubt effect their chances at winning.

1. JLo --- Critically Acclaimed. Unfinished Life is directed by Lasse Halstrom. Stars Robert Redford. Its very, very oscar baity. Plus, the Golden Globes CANT RESIST Jennifer, having already nominated her for Selena.

2. Jim Carrey will break through like Johnny Depp finally did.

3. IMDB is what i used, and i researched Screenwirters, directors, et al.

Changed Best Actor Predictions as Morgan Freeman (like others) will get his recognition in the Supporting Actor category. Thats where the overdue actors can pick up some awards.

So im taking his name off the Best Actor list, and I added bill Murray for THE LIFE AQUATIC.

JLo is a critically acclaimed actress? I guess Out of Sight was a decent movie.. Selena I haven't seen. She was in U Turn.. which was also decent but is probably Oliver Stone's worst film. Other than that...well I guess Cher was utter rubbish in the few films she was in before Moonstruck as well.

Johnny Depp was recognised, but his chances were undermined because of a combination of factors, not least because of the character he played and the film he played in. I think the same will probably apply to Jim Carrey. It'd be a shame if he did win though, Johnny Depp's a much better actor and his Jack Sparrow was wonderful... unless his performance is spectacular of course.

Um, okay! I have a strong passion for this okay? And i have for years! How does devoting some of my time to this, while having a very productive school life, differ from people who spend time w/ Footy scores, Soccer, etc. Tell Me!

So, unless you have to make a valid contribution to the thread wihout criticising something i have put alot of time and effort into doing, for personal satisfaction, why dont you just IGNORE this thread?

My recreation IS my recreation! It was a valid contribution to an ENTERTAINMENT thread. The Academy Awards play a very solid part in the entertainment industry.

Jeez, you stained this thread like a White shirt covered in Barbeque Sauce.

I manage to maintain a great school and academic life, which translates to my implementing of oscar history to current events. Dont get me started on Oscar Math -- for example, Sean Penn broke the Golden Globe curse when for Seven YEars, teh Golden Globes winner of Best Actor (which makes 2 each year, one for Drama and one for Comedy/Musical) hasnt gone on to win Best Actor at the Academy Awards.

Get Stuffed seems logical to me, yet imate.

Well, i didnt know much about what happened at the time. I told Hayden to tell you taht i had NOTHIGN against you, since he explained it to me. Im angry at Daniel too. Can we all possibly forget this? Its too stressing for any of us.

Anyway, i study heaps, and try and fit in 3 hours each night. I dont have a study period or anything and my work is pretty heavy. Me doing things like this with a couple of friends is alot of fun for me.
