If you have a working title from the beginning of the subject you cant exactly have no title D:

And I doubt you can have a marking criteria for the title :S

1 - Three words from the story OR three words that relate to the plot or values
0 - No title D:

My god, wtf people.
It just isn't going to happen.
It's not on the rubric, so they can't do shit about it. No matter who they are, or how anal they are. It's simply not there.
A title's far more relevant for a poem, as it actually ties the meaning together, and who the hell usually does those for a creative? If you've done your story properly, there's no need to emphasise the meanings or values in it because you've already done that through your writing.

It's liking having a title page on every assignment you do. Sure, it looks nice, but it's not like you get marks for it.

Why must this continue when you've been told by a number of people it just won't? -.-

I agree, if you have a title it cant hurt, but if you didnt write one then there is no need to worry, the story will still get the same mark

No wayyyy.

Also, just wondering, do HSC markers that have taught a specific module mark the exams relevant to that? Or do exams just go to whatever markers regardless of the module you've learnt/they 'specialise' in.

As one of the posters said above, this is Extension 1, there really isn't any excuse for not understanding the conventions of a short story i.e. TITLE. 99% of short stories have titles, and the ones that don't generally don't for a specific purpose. So if you're doing anything apart from textual dynamics, that 'Genre' of 'Way of Thinking' or whatever prooooobably involves titles in their texts. So when the rubric says control of language to express whatever, it might include title.

I am 100% certain that a title will make no difference to the final mark. The majority (i reckon vast majority) of the state will not have bothered with a title. The markers are not going to say "oh yes this story is excellent, but it doesnt have a title, so i cant give it full marks." A three word title at the start may be useful in creating a positive first impression on the marker, but by the end of the story the title (or lack there of) is going to have no bearing on the final mark given. Its not about "understanding the conventions of a short story" or "control of language," in that respect the abscence of a title is no worse than a few spelling mistakes. Have a look at both the standards packages and the marking comments from previous years, not one mentions the abscence of a title.

In short, having a title is a good thing in that it cant hurt (but dont expect any extra marks for it). However, those who did not have a title need not worry, because they are still capable of getting full marks and are at no disadvantage.

Ok, maybe you're right. But yeah, a good title can give your story a deeper meaning.

Absolutely, its rare (because a lot of the time the title is just a summation of the story), but it can definitely be a positive influence on the story
