I guess it depends what school of thought you belong to in mathematical philosophy, doesn't it? The philosophy of mathematics is a lot deeper than "its a construct designed to model the physical universe", that's all. I mean, philosophers still haven't resolved whether mathematics exists mind-independently or not. And they likely never will.

Math is mind-independent. The set Math={calculus,algebra,...,number theory} is mind-independent because for the combination:

(something)*(calculus) + (something)*(algebra)+...+(something)*(number theory) = nothing

"something" can only equal to "nothing". Therefore Math is mind-independent.

And there was light! Oh, wait... no.

I define a new set, &, to consist of the following:
& = {0, 1 , 2, 3 , 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 20 ...}, and & follows the same rules as the set N. Hence 2+2=5.
I don't follow that.

We have z hands, where z is the new two, and 4 must equal z+z. :)
You claim that 4=z+z=2z
Therefore: z=2 (where z, you say is the 'new' two )

LOL that's just 'passing the buck'...

And, in any case, whats to say that z is the new 1, in which, 1=z+z ... ? :)

So; *BUZZZZ* Please try again ^^

I don't think you quite understand.

That 2=1+1 is a definition. However, since it has been said that 2+2=5, then 2 must no longer equal 1+1, so we say that some new number, z, equals 1+1, and then we have our normal number system except after 1 is z. Rather simple. ;)

2 is a useless symbol and is simply equal to 5/z.
