i find that stupid because getting notes on P&P or north and south is really hard

Hey people,

I did North & South last year, I'll try to dig up some notes - I know how hard it is to find some!

But EVERYONE check out the series screening this Sunday on ABC 8.30! Sounds sooooo good! Or maybe it's cause I've finished the HSC. hmmmm

North & South is awesome - and so is the BBC series!!

but in all honesty, N&S is a fantastic text for Individual and Society because of the multiple layers of the individual v. society in it: women, trade unionism (BIG I&S things there with Higgins, Boucher etc.), Margaret, Thornton and so on. Minor characters are used to emphasis the issues of the individual and society, either illuminating particular facets to the major characters (e.g. Edith, who is technically the "ideal woman", essentially exposes how individual Margaret is), or to be a case in themselves of the individual and society (e.g. Mrs Thornton, who is an atypical woman during this period).

Hopefully with the advent of the BBC series, there'll be a lot more critical responses/assessments of North and South emerging!

Hey people, tried to dig out my notes, not having much success - two stacks of 1 meter books fell on me in the garage!!!

Some of them I think focuses too much on the comparisons and the adaptation of the novel to film, so just use the info related to the text.

Im sorry but I can't be bothered sending it to everyone so here are my P&P notes...all my N&S notes were actually critical essays so I recommend you guys to read as many critical essays as you can, it really helps you to understand the concepts in I&S
Btw im sorry if you find any mistakes in my notes, they were done in times of stress
