There's been a bit of hype about this in the news lately about this. The Victorian government plan to pump 75 billion litres anually from the murray darling basin at the goulbourn river. It will be pumped to the sugarloaf reservoir for use in melbourne.

What are peoples thoughts on this? should it go ahead? Why/why not?

Bad idea. Why don't they use their brains and desalinate seawater or recycle wastewater instead of fucking up the environment a bunch more.

They are building a desalination plant down on bass strait, however the pipeline will cost less than a recycling plant or another desalination plant. Another idea that would actually cost even less would be to pipe the water from tasmania, but the polititians don't seem interested in the idea.

I thought that they were banning all towns from taking water from the murray? Bendigo, Shepparton etc?

Nuclear desalination would be the ideal solution.
