In one of the tables on UAC, it shows the number of people who got UAIs of 99+, 98+ etc. For 99+ there were ~853 students - is this distributed evenly within each increment of 0.05 i.e. there are 20 increments of 0.05 between 99 and 99.95, Does that mean there are 43 students who achieved 99.95, 43 for 99.9 etc?

It isn't a perfectly even distribution, but it should be roughly correct.

Twenty-one students scored 100, which leaves 832 between 99.00 and 99.95 inclusive.

832/20 = 41.6

Some ranks would have less than this, others more.

I believe this was approximately the distribution of the top UAIs in 2002:

100.00 22
99.95 44
99.90 46
99.85 50
99.80 44
99.75 45
99.70 44
99.65 46
99.60 44
99.55 54
99.50 36
99.45 45
99.40 46
99.35 46
99.30 47
99.25 38
99.20 44
99.15 43
99.10 45
99.05 44
99.00 45

The further down you go, the more uneven it becomes.

Well, apart from a few anomalies it seems to be around 45 per increment...damn, that means that the dux of my school was basically in ~ the top 100 in the state overall - nice effort on his part :)
