Not in office yet, but already doing policy backflips. I'll add more soon, but this on his promise to withdraw troops from Iraq within 16 months.
Andrew Bolt said:
Remember Barack Obama’s vow to pull US troops out of Iraq within 16 months? Now come the caveats that make the promise meaningless, because he sure as hell doesn’t want to lose this peace:
But as I have said consistently, I will listen to the recommendations of my commanders. And my number one priority is making sure that our troops remain safe in this transition phase and that the Iraqi people are well served by a government that is taking on increased responsibility for its own security.
Spot them? First caveat is that he’ll let his commanders tell him to wait. Second is that he won’t pull out if that exposes his troops to danger. Third is that he must be satisfied that Iraqis won’t suffer by a pullout too premature.

And there’s yet another caveat: his promise applies only to combat troops.

Welcome to the presidency of George W Bush II.

Some of us always saw this backflip coming though. It had to... Obama tried to make policy decisions on Iraq, before actually looking into the issue. I think a 2011 withdrawal is likely.

Oh, like some one from the Age or the ABC? Give me a break. Andrew Bolt is a decent news source, and in any case, the information can be verified via the link I provided.

rarara, there's nothing wrong with that "backflip" anyway - it's just sound policy.

So basically, alexdores is chucking another spaz because Obama is doing exactly what he said he'd do during the campaign (consider the advice of those around him, and only withdraw combat troops)?

You missed entirely the fact that Bush has accepted a withdrawal commitment and time-frame as part of negotiations with the Iraqi government - the very thing he and McCain said they'd never do and criticised Obama for.

Alexdores - sensationalistic spacktard extraordinaire!

Yeah this isn't news at all. He has been saying the same thing since the primaries. People were too blinded by the personality (whether you like him or not) and failed to actually look at the guy's policies.

Um, what kind of person? You thought he'd just rip all the troops out of Iraq straight away and completely, creating a dangerous power vacuum?

Any far-left Obama supporter offended or surprised by his centrism is really just as delusional as the far-right who accused him of socialism - blind to the fact that Obama is a consensus building pragmatist, and has been the entire campaign.

Obama has had his first National Security meeting, it was fully expected that 'some things would change'.

I remind, there are some 38 levels of 'secrecy' that the President alone cannot view or action as Commander in Chief. Because, Presidents come and go, but - the nation is forever.

Regardless, Obama enters office at a pig of a time, the next decade will see the US face powerful actions and enemies, and will in all probability cease to be the most powerful nation on earth militarily and financially. (Duh).

It will nonetheless, remain 'powerful' and influential, and with strong friends. Much of America's 'problem' is internal, and its been under sustained societal attack for the last 40 odd years, starting with education. You learn 'much' you see, BUT, much of what you learn is meaningless, worthless.

Look at Youtube for the Tom Lehrer vids - PC send-up from the 1950's that roosts here now.

Not quite.

If you actually read it, you'll see the edit was around 40 minutes before you even posted.

:guitar: Oh Yeah!
