You're 18 (younger than me by 1 year), on probation like myself but you earn more than me? :S Do POS earn more or something?

It's a job but I still deserve to know why he gets paid more than me even though we're both on probation and he's younger.

I love this job, it's great but the money side is also very important. Small differences in hourly rates make a huge accumilative difference, especially since I've got a few bills and fines which need to be paid desperately. In other words, I really need money right now and every cent counts.

BM = Business Machines rite?

what do people do in BM?
BM envolves selling computers, camera, printers, scanners, etc. You have to be fairly knowledgable about these things to work in this sector.

wellllllll.....

we could do with someone at OUR store...

in our techworks section we are chronically understaffed...

we got like a signboard on our door saying that you can apply.

officeworks artarmon that is ;)

if you want.. just rock up and get an APP form and then once that's filled give it to the manager :)

im sure we wouldn't mind more girls :)

@dragon: probably coz north sydney is a smaller store? i dunno =\

well in that case.. i would assume you can apply but don't keep yours fingers crossed for any positions such as POS

in most officeworks, POS is pretty much overstafffed.

There's one way to change that- go to the Officeworks website, note down what tech stuff they sell, then do research on them (eg, features, prices, suitability, product history, etc). If you want to work in tech stuff you won't get customers asking for items that aren't in the catalogue. If they do then they're stupid and should look elsewhere.
Um.. yes they do, they do it all the time. They ask alot of questions which are outside of the knowledge base of the catalogue products since obviously the customers don't know all the products Officeworks stock. They also tend to ask you tech related questions in general. As for the researching up products stuff, that's a good idea but with BM they really want someone who is interested in the area. I got in not because of how much I knew, but because of how interested I was. I don't think it's a good idea for her to pretend to like BM because then the job will just feel unfulfilling.. kinda like working in a specialised sector like a clothing retailer but totally not interested in fashion.

Junior stationery team members would spend most of their day doing cascade/spot fills (systematically taking stuff from the interim/overhead and filling the home location) while replenishment team members would take all the stuff from receiving and either fill the home location or chuck the stuff on the overhead/interim.

I've done both and I'd say replenishment is a tad more exciting, cuz the stuff that comes on the pallets in receiving are kinda random and you never know what to expect next... *shakes fist at the 'mixed' boxes of papermates, pentels, bics and stadtelers*

I've also done furniture, it sucks... sometimes it can be really bludgy but at other times (e.g. weekends) u get shitloads of customers all wanting chairs and tables which are buried deep within the receiving shelves.

I also done some BM despite my somewhat limited computing knowledge. Most of the customers know very little (any knowledgable computer person would know that officeworks is not the best place to buy a computer) so I usually don't have to do much more than explain to them what's already on those helpful information sheets next to every comp.

I have no comments on pos, never worked there but I heard it's *boring*.

Bump: Wow.. nearly 3 months since I started working there now.. get off probation pay in less than 5 days.

Few things I wanna share:
- Since our BM section is explicitly in front of the stationary department in it's entirity.. anyone who wishes to go to stationary (or furniture actually), has to traverse through BM. Hence when I do the usual customer service patrols in the BM dep. when there's nothing to do.. I get alot of stationary questions. Annoying.. since I know jack shit about alot of the stuff there.
- We're terribly understaffed in stat and furn right now. Infact most of the time there's 1 stat/furn TM on shift.. so when they go for their 30min lunch breaks or 15min short breaks.. someone from BM (i.e me) has to cover for them. Sucks since like I said, I know jack shit about stationary.
- We don't have enough phones. This wasn't helped by the fact that I dropped another one in the toilet a week ago.
- Half of our U-Wraps don't work.
- More than half of our U-Wrap keys are broken.
- One or two security stickers sets off the alarm.. but carry a whole roll with you out the door and nothing happens. Hahahahahaa.
