My friend got 92 in business & she is a pretty average student.
Business is a piss easy subject, hence why so few band 6's. (In easy subjects it's very hard to show a real knowledge of the topics, so it's hard to give alot of band 6's)

Can 89.95 get into a 90.05 course?

I've got my UAI, which is 89.95.
I want to get into one course in Sydney Uni, whose projected 2005 UAI is
90.05. There is only 0.1 difference between it and my result.
Do I still have the chance to get into that course?
If I can, please tell me how to apply.
Thank you very very much!

You also have a chance if they don't have enough students to fill the course, so they might let you in despite the small difference. Otherwise I think that a 0.1 difference is pretty trivial so they might just let you in anyway. But that's my opinion, I'm not a UAC employee lol.

Even if you are 0.05 off, they won't allow you in unless you had EAS.

There is no sympathy cut-offs.

But there is the chance that the course UAI cut-off might be lower next year.

Not too happy

Hello all,

Im not here to say my uai or anything, i did quite good for myself but i am disappointed with my final uai results as my hsc marks were quite good.

Personally i disagree with this new scaling system. This new system disadvantages those out there willing/needing to do those harder courses out there. I Hate hearing about the many people out there getting these very good results and then finding out that they did EASIER subject unlike subjects such as physics or along those lines. So for those out there that needed or wanted to do the harder subjects and just cruise along or struggle get kicked in the pants because of not reaching 80+ to drag your marks higher. Things such as hearing that a general maths student who gets 80 to that of say 75 in maths 2unit and getting the same in everything else, the general maths student gets a higher UAI. This doesnt seem very fair to those who pushed themselves.

My main reason for writing this message is to find out how many people disagree with the system or fell low on uai due to the system and have realised that the system benefits those who do easier subjects.

For those out there who did do well in the harder subjects congrats.

Cheers

im just wondering if someones final hsc marks add up to say 460 and they get a uai of 97.65, why is their uai lower than someone who got a total of 458 and a uai of 98.85?
do the final hsc marks get scaled again!?!

damn that sucks..
so u never know ur final hsc scaled mark?
nope, we dont.

The mark we get is a mark that is set by the standards of the course itself, so a committee of people decide what is the cut off raw mark for a band 6, band 5, etc. eg a raw mark of 85 might be the cut off for a band 6 in a given course, so if you get 85 raw the mark you actually get will be 90. However the scaled marks we dont see try to make a comparison between courses, and determine our uai
