In short - no. Why? Because you won't be able to do 113 and 103 until after one year.

Hi, I'm taking the applied finance/actuarial degree. It's one of those courses that the handbook like to be very unhelpful with the subjects. But I'm fine now after being directed to the Eric room to get the list of core subjects.
One question however, what's the difference between comp115 and comp125?

The whole COMP115, COMP125 is quite controversial in the B Acturial Studies program. For some reason they let you do COMP125, if you're in Acturial without doing 115. Which is the most idiotic thing you could do. If you have had no programming experience, you'd be certainly lost by doing 125. My advice simply is, do 115.

Acst + Maths double, probably whatever the recommended program is.. I'm a bit unclear about that and a little confused.

spread out over 2 semesters? no offense but it seems kinda lazy of you.. that is unless you have work or soemthing!!

oh and you might get a shock from the double workload next year when you officially start your degree!!

Actually, yes I do have to work and it's quite common for non-award students to spread their units out over two semesters anyway.

my advice would be, if you are a good student and are thinking of leaving your options open to enrol in the Comp Sci double degree next year, then do 125. I've seen a few first year Actuarial Students with NO programming experience whatsoever get HDs in COMP125.

It is not, as Majesty claims, the most idiotic thing you could do. If you are thinking of ever transferring into the comp sci double, then do it.

Although if you don't plan to move to the double degree i would still recommend 115 over 125.
yeah for sure, if you have no interest in the double degree, don't attempt the more difficult 125.

I spose I may as well post my 2nd year program:

Semester 1:
ACCG253
ECON110
ECON141

Semester 2:
ACCG353
ECON201
MATH133

going for D avg this year.

There really isn't any controversy... Actuarials do pretty well, without 115. It just takes them a while to catch up in some sense - just a bit more reading. I knew heaps who did that... and managed D+ in 125. And what Isaaq said!

I was just saying, if you had the choice between the two and you weren't going into a double degree program, oh and the fact that you do 5 subjects in that semester (i think), why would you want to do the harder one? *shrug*. You people make life harder than it already is. :D

It's an avenue to second year units, without do anymore COMP units... so it isn't such a loss.
