(up top)
click view
tick status bar

:)

i assume you are using Internet Explorer (microsoft browser), and that "little blue bar that has what windows I have open" to mean your start menu (and that means you are using Windows XP).

"the whiteish one" (looks grey) is your status bar, and that shows the progress of page loads, other details such as whether you're on an intranet, internet, URLs, mouse-overs and other security details such as 'secure' sites (verisign and all the other ecommerce/banking/paypal sites).

dragging the blue bar up/down and "everything" will only resize the start menu, which is not what you want.

:)

the status bar always disappears when you open a new window.
so damn annoying.
how do you make it always appear.
I have tried the "apply to all folders" button

Ahh yes, sounds much like a bug in Windows, i think Huy might be able to answer this, as we both get our sources identically, and perhaps he remembers, but i know it had been a bug.

Yeah, that sounds like a known bug in Windows XP.
I would just do it all over again and see how it goes.

Windows Explorer (it might work in My Computer, but I hardly use My Computer).
View, Status Bar
Close Windows Explorer

If you want to test it out,
Open Windows Explorer

I have tried it just then, but perhaps it was fixed in SP1 (or one of the pre-SP2 patches, I've been a bit busy to be reading the new KB articles).

/edit
"apply to all folders" will only apply for folder views, for example "view by thumbnail, type, modified, etc, show hidden file types, file extensions, etc" -- they are viewing options.

(tools, folder options, view, apply to all folders)

:)

If you're not affected, then you're not affected.

Not experiencing the above problem? Then the solution does not apply to you, hehehe. :)

Sorry if I'm sounding a bit snappy, it's been a long afternoon. (I won't even bother explaining/talking about it).

Let's just say that it's hot, and people lose their tempers/can easily become agitated/irritated when it's humid and people are constantly asking "too much" of you.

Are you using Windows XP?

If not, then it is (unlikely) that you will experience the "status bar has gone disappearing" act.

If so, then this issue must have been addressed via an Automatic Update or via Windows Update, through a patch/updater/fix.

:)
