its up to ur teacher and ur class isnt it??
we're doin medical phys and its realli cool coz we got to on an excursion to the radiologist and got to watch a video of the endoscope but if u want an option topic with lots of notes and stuff do quanta to quarks.... its got the most info and theres heaps of ppl doin it.... but i still like med phys betta =P

we're doing astrophysics coz my teacher knows that best. i personally find planets boring but she didn't make it sound so bad. it beats quanta to quarks though. i hate atoms and chemistry with a passion!

we dont have enough time to complete the option topic before the trials anyway so have to study it on my own so got a choice

Yeah, Quanta 2 Quarks!

You'll find a lot of people do that, and it's easy to get your hands on materials.

my class did quanta.. but when it looked like chemistry i went by myself and did medicle.
a) i got to take off physics class for the entire term
b) medicle is really really interesting. You can relate to everything. Everything is related to eachother. yeah.. 100% reccoment medicle.

But medicine is mostly theory right?
Hence harder to get marks compared to calculations

But I mean how much of calculations is left in the new HSC anyway? :(

too true
incidently, my teacher said it is 89% theory, 11% calculations in the exam

i did Quanta to Quarks which is realli boring
and we couldnt realli go off and do our own option since we had a blasted assessment on quanta to quarks...!

I did physics last year and i'm doing it again this year (accelerated and compounded course, years 11 and 12 in 6 months) so i'm not just plucking this from my arse.

I can tell you from experience that Quanta to Quarks is not the easiest option topic. The questions they ask are relatively simple but it's hard to get that firm grasp on it. If your forte lies with particle physics and the atom then this is the option for you. To get top marks in this, you need to be able to understand the concepts very well + get additional information for certain investigation tasks.

Medical Physics is not only easier but shorter. Questions can get harder but you just need to make sure you do alit bit more research on the net or wherever. So basically to get Band 6 in this option, you need to demonstate you have conducted further research and understand comprehensively what was covered.

Mind you, if you are doing another option in class, do that option and not another one, fullstop.

Hope I have helped.

we doin quanta 2 quarks but our teachers a bum so i basicly haf to learn it on my own b4 trials

is age of silicon ez?

dju u fink its worth learning an extra option for the hsc cos i im finding quanta heaps boring and age of silicon looks heaps ezier

I'm doing Astrophysics, but there is no information on it online. All the notes relate to Q2Q, and all the trial papers have Q2Q questions, there are no Astrophysics notes/exams that you can get your hands on.

I didn't know that you could go off and do a different topic to your class, do all school's have that option. What about in the Trial, what if they don't have questions for you? What if you're questions are harder (relatively) compared to what the rest of the year is doing? :(

everyone does the 3 chapters..which is
1. space
2. motors and generators
3. from ideas to implementation
then they choose an elective.. so some may b doin a different topic to others for the elective section..
i'm doin astrophysics...cos our teacher has a phD in astronomy... i dont think it'll b too bad..but i mite b wrong :p

Well, with our teacher it was a decision between Astronomy and From Quantas to Quarks... though both choices sound interesting, i was inclined to the Astronomy side ^_^ But we're doing From Quantas to Quarks... and well.... if you do chem. (which i don't).. you have a little bit of an edge. That and trying to understand very small subatomic particles makes my head spinny 0_o

Hoie..., i'll live, im not doing too badly anyway ^_^

But astronomy sounds fun, and it will also reinforce some ideas covered in the Space topic ^_^

take care,
...

hey AlexZ
since how you did quanta to quarks...it's heaps of chemistry right? and what was soo hard about the question?
cos i was thinking of doing medical physics on my own...and do that for the hsc...cos seriously...i have more interest in that....
and my school's done the trials already..and we haven't done the option...and for me..i totally dislike chemistry...

i kno wat u mean
fully, the mass defect stuff im almost clueless on since its all chemistry!
i think im gonna totally screw the option topic in the exam...

quanta to quarks

yeah we are doing quanta to quarks and i really hated the idea...i'm not finding it that bad now though...i really wanted to the elective on electronics whatever it is....cause i did SDD and knew gates and binary arithmetic and shit back to front....anyways quanta to quarks it is.....sigh
