has anyone heard - or can shed some light - of transferring from optometry to medicine? it's the closest offer to medicine that i got and it's not a bad fallback in case the word comes to an end.

at the moment my first pref for my local uni is a science course.

Well if you want to specialise in opthamology later on then do optometry but its not a good lead in course for medicine. First year you have to get really expensive stuff which is a waste if your not going to be an optometrist.

Do something heavy in biology and chemistry and anatomy etc.

I'm not sure if they're called doctors (although I probably should considering my cousin is an optometrist) but I reckon optometry would be a really nasty pathway to medicine. I.e. hard to get high marks in (but then again which pathways aren't).

Be careful with it as a fallback...think about whether you actually want to spend 40-50 years of your life doing it...

it'd be better suited to me than something in the science field though. can anyone confirm that optometrists aren't doctors?
