My teacher says we should prove them before we use them since they're not apart of the provided formula sheet :-/

Mostly the question would lead you in, telling you to prove it.
As in they would tell you to equate centripetal force formula with gravitational force formula to find the orbital velocity.

Escape velocity occurs when Ek=GPE, therefore when 1/2mv^2=GmM/r therefore cancelling m.
1/2v^2=GM/r
v^2=2GM/r
v=root 2GM/r
