2 weeks ago, 1 week before the trials to begin our illeterate teacher decides to cancel a a litlle assesment exam worth 10% right on the day and told us he will put the 10% weight worth into our trial exam making it 40% all up
Our whole class has severaly panic because he only gave us a weeks notice

I was just wondering is the guidlines for setting an assesment task 2 week in advance for the due date or what?

I want to put in a formal complaint but want to get my facts right first?? ??

I'm not really sure ... see usually that 2 week rule applies if he set a seperate assessment, he can argue saying everyone studied before that two weeks, and the only difference is that is postponed to your trials so you could percieved it as an extension ... what was it specifically? just testing a topic?

Theoretically speaking, everyone in the class is affected so no-one has really been put at a disadvantage by your teacher's decision to tack on an extra 10% to your trial weighting. Furthermore, I don't think it would really affect your performance in the trial. And seeing as the assessment worth 10% was an exam, then there's not too much of a problem. There may be if the task was meant to be completely different e.g. report, project.

That said, I'm not sure whether your teacher is actually permitted to change assessment weightings mid-year. Afaik, all students must sign a document acknowledging that they're aware of the assessment changes (that's what happened when my chemistry assessment dates were switched around). So you may possibly have a grounds for appeal, but consult the computing co-ordinator at your school or possibly a studies co-ordinator. They will be able to advise you more thoroughly, as different schools may have different policies in regards to such issues.

Perhaps some people spent time preparing for the cancelled assessment at the detriment of preparing for trials, whilst others prepared more for the trials than the cancelled assessment. If that is the case, then it would be an unfair advantage.
