the processes in cells, eg. enzyme action, are related to macroscopic (larger, observable with the naked eye) changes in the organism, (the right levels of end product assist the organism to function).

If the cell doesn't function as it should, cancer can result, and the whole organism can become very sick and/or die.

It's not necessarily cancer, if a cell fails to function properly, it dies. If this happens to many cells within a certain area an organ may cease to function, and because this organ's function is important for the whole body to function, death may result.
