The Oxidising agent is the oxidant right? which gets reduced so
for Zn -> Zn2+ +2e-
Cu + 2e- -> Cu

The Oxidising agent and the oxidant would be copper is this correct? thanx for any help

Think of it like cleaning agent and dirty dishes.
The cleaning agent does not get clean itself, but causes the dishes to be clean.
The Dirty dishes do not get dirty, yet causes the water and the cleaning agent to get dirty.

ie. The cleaning agent is the oxidation agent and the dishes are the reducing agent: The agent causes the effect, not effected by it.

Oxygen is an oxidising agent and it gains two electrons... so yeh, the one which gains electrons.

Edit: Lol, I've forgotten so much chem I just realised. I'm starting again this session too.

OIL RIG. Reduction is gain, so the one that gains electron is being reduced, hence it's the oxidising agent. Hey, I was right!

Simply put, yes you are right wrtx, except your Cu equation should have been:

Cu2+ + 2e- ---> Cu(s)
