the government makes us hav to display p plates, and then fines us if we dont, a cuurent affair had a story 2nite that some council is making the old folks display 'm' plates for mature....

i think if we shud hav to display p plates because we are younger, well then all old people shud hav 2 hav these plates to show that they are old...

other drivers in identified bad driving stereotypes shud also have to display them (im sure there will be big arguments here but.....) what about "o" plates for oriental drivers, and "w" plates for women drivers, even "v" plates for volvo drivers

alot of heated debate is sure to begin im sure, get cracking guys

cheers

Are you sure that that is what P plates are meant to represent?

A pathetic idea that doesn't make much sense, to tell the truth.

MY BITCH:p plates have the intention of saying 'provisional' driver and therefore, yes, inexperienced, however, the actual cause of them is a meanin of 'prey' and that cops will prey on you and the media can slander you as an insuperior driver

THE LAW:but by law, the whole idea is that u have additional provisions on ur licence, y then dont people that hav 2 wear glasses, or old people that cant drive a certain distance from home hav 2 wear them, answer that for me?

a) u hav to pass a sight test to get your license
b) once u turn 80 u have to sit a p-plate practical test each year to establish your driving competance
c) its the law :p

It's funny how a lot of them were saying they were against it because then people would be constantly overtaking them and cutting them off and stuff, like it's not happening with P platers. I think its a great idea, and I think even other drivers should have plates, like people who are consnatly involved in accidents, and people who are constantly cause speeding.

yes, lets all wear a plate to show our driving competency.

I vote a national system, seeing as competency standards are the be all and end all, of "I" or "C".
Incompetent or competent driver.
That solves the problem, naturally you have to pass to merely gain the title "driver" or you would get traffic systems similar to some in Thailand, the middle east etc, you just get classed as either I or C.

And incompetent drivers get to have "special" driving rules (so no late nights for the geriatrics, young people or volvo drivers).

Frankly I think "Mature" plates (*sniggers* what a euphemism) are stupid and a waste of good plastic. I mean old people aren't involved in *that* many accidents, statistically.

What about accidents they cause. Surely they contribute to that, but there are no statistics to show it.

lol....okay point taken they are a bit of a public liability teheh..... no but seriously.... the national road toll over represents p platers etc...so fair enough for them, but I honestly don't believe old ppl are a major factor in accidents...... although it would be hilariously funny if M plates were introduced.... and indeed may increase road safety.

When they were doing that M plates thing on a current affair they interviewed an old lady who said she wasn't a bad driver and was against the M plates. Then they were in the car with her and she went through a stop sign cause she didn't see it until it was too late

I have noticed that a trend has emerged with these p platers that are crashing, apart from the ones in the WRX's. I am always hearing P platers have been killed in accidents on the central coast or somewhere outside of Sydney, which is making me think that maybe the p's tests out there aren't hard enough.

yeah but as a general rule, p platers are younger drivers.....

and the accidents arent because they are inexperienced, id say that the numbers of geberal p platers in accidents would be similar to the national averages, and its not the ones in the wrxs that crash out of the statistics, the difference is all those in shit cars that now hav a big engine in them and huge sports exhausts

these cars have way 2 much acceleration that the body cant handle, they accelerate, they lose it, and when they crash, the cars are shit, they fall apart straight away....

One of my friends mum who is turning 45 this year, and she just for her Ps, after having her Ls for almost 10 years. She's been living in Sydney for most of her life but she said she didn't need to drive so she couldn't see the point of getting it. She is definitely not young, but not enough to drive very very slow.

no you don't, but the majority of P platers are young, so thats where the target is.

Im not sure if its the P tests that are not hard enough, i mean you can pass them then drive like an idiot when your out on the road. Im pretty sure the German system has a quite rigorous driver education program which sounds good, its pretty expensive to maintain but it involves driver defence courses, n course where u skid on oil n stuff. Not sure about the German national tolls but it sounds pretty good.

D plates can warn other drivers that you've been busted for drink driving and should be treated with extreme caution on Friday and Saturday nights.

R plates can warn other drivers that you've got a nasty temper and will break jaws when pissed off. Other drivers should lock their doors, wind up their windows, and have their steering wheel "lock stick thing" in hand should you exit your vehicle in a sea of expletives.

O plates can warn other drivers that you're old and smelly.
What about F plates for female drivers.

not entirley true, i have had quite a few full license female drivers tailgate me even when i'm doing the speed limit, and then when they overtake you and are just about to speed off the give ya the finger or honk their horn, now whats that about?
