hello,

was wondering: is parallax error a source of error that you can discuss in a practical assessment when the question is: List/Discuss the possible sources of error in this experiment???

I was deducted marks for listing this as an error.

anyone know. cos i really think the teacher was too harsh

It would be helpful if you told us what the actual experiment was. For example, if it was something like a titration in which you had to read off lines from the burette and pipette, then a parallax error would be valid to mention as a source of error in your response.

I believe the parallax error for this experiment is valid to put in your response, it's just too bad that your teacher was a little tight on the marking.

Another source of error in a titration is not cleaning the burette/pipette with the substance that will be used in each. If you clean them using water, this will affect the pH and cause inaccuracies in determining the equivalence point for a acid-base titration.

Choosing the right indicator is also important as not using the right one will result in an invalid procedure.
