Hi,

I only need to do 16 CP to complete my studies this year and my current subject selection has three 3CP subjects in Sem1 and three 3CP subjects in Sem2. I know if I do less than a certain amount of CP I'm considered a part time student, but is this per semester basis or per year basis?

And would I be counted as a part time student or full time?

And if I were to consider doing 2 subjects in Sem1 and 4subjects in Sem2 would that be part time or full time?

Thanks

From memory it was anything under 18cp for the year? or 9 cp a semester was considered part-time.

Wait for Skittled for official confirmation.

I rang up about this last yr and they told me that you're considered full time if you do 9 cp or over per semester. When I went to get my cityrail sticker they only requested to see proof of my sem 1 subjects for me to get the sticker for the entire year....so if that's what you're inquiring with regards to....

I was kinda doing that last semester. Worked 5days part time hours and went to night class. It's not worth it unless you're enjoying work or really need the money.

i would think the best way to go is to do 4 subjects during the 3 days and work the other 2 days. that way u have the best of both worlds.

or 3 days work and 3 subjects uni, that way u won't have to start from scratch when starting off in work

...ugh. Goes back to my last job. Quick google search would answer this for you by turning up the following page: http://www.student.mq.edu.au/ses/whatisinvolvedinadegree.htm
That Website said:
Full-time study is considered to be 9 credit points or more per semester for undergraduate, and ... <more about PG study>
Part-time study is anything less than the full-time load.
...On top of this, for the purposes of MQ internal definitions, and unless things have changed in the last 12 months, you can 'average' this. i.e. 14cp in first semester, and 4cp in second semester, will get you a concession card for the entire year. I don't think this averaging works outside the uni, thought -- for example, I don't know whether Centrelink would pay you in 2nd semester (you'd have to ask Centrelink themselves for their Equivalent Full-Time Student Load (EFTSL) rules).

So. 9cp/semester will treat you as full time, for the purposes of MQ uni and concession cards.

...So, 6cp in Sem1 + 16 in Sem2 = 24cp >18cp whole year = full time (as above, assuming nothing's changed). Woo, cheap travel for 12 more months!

Just for Mike: :D

Haha poor Steve, I'll drop by sometime and give you something to grab silly students through the monitor and stomp on their faces.

Doesnt' have to be that violent, but something equally painful would be great! ;)

Can we swap jobs for a day?

I've already cried once with laughter hearing about some of the stupid stupid people, I reckon a job trade would be so worth it just for the entertainment value alone...
