hello, I'm seeking help with my task for the human experience, on book 'past the shallows' and the stimulus. I need to find a related text that relates to such themes of relationships especially that of those with parental figures and power imbalances

These were the assessment instructions:

Students deliver a recorded or live multimodal* presentation on Texts and Human Experiences in which they evaluate the power of the prescribed and related texts to represent aspects of the human experience.

They are to draw on the article attached (Appendix 1): “The Strength of the Sensitive: E.M. Forster on the Power of Empaths”, to shape their thesis. Students are to evaluate how the representation of the concept(s) in the article deepens their understanding of the human experience.

hopefully someone can help :)

thanks

just googling "past the shallows related texts" will give you several results but if you're looking for student recommendations i think barn owl by gwen harwood is a good choice its quite a lengthy poem and it really touches on various relationships/dynamics between parental figures and life/death so it works in favour of the "empath" point ive done analysis on it before and i think its quite an insightful text but it might be helpful if you look up a guide or other analysis as a reference HOWEVER i must put a disclaimer that i havent used it for a multimodal but there is another user vouching for it below
Are you allowed multimedia (e.g. movies, cartoons, etc)? Or is it exclusively texts?
If you are allowed multimedia, I'd recommend the cartoon "Gardens of the Human Condition".
If not, then perhaps the poem "The Barn Owl".
From what I've seen, the longing for connection and the father-son are a key element of your text, something present in both.
these other suggestions were sniped off the art of smart for your ease of access if barn owl is not your taste
‘Barn Owl’ (Gwen Harwood, poem)
'2017 University of Southern California Commencement Speech’ (Will Ferrell, speech)
‘Gardens of the Human Condition’ (Michael Leunig, cartoon - The Age, 8 October 1988)
‘A videogame to cope with grief’ (Amy Green, TED talk)
‘The Raven’ (Edgar Allan Poe, poem)
