I've read that at enrolment (at least for BPharm @ USyd), you choose whether you're going to pay your CSP Contribution upfront, or take up a HECS-HELP loan.

Since the fees are calculated by adding up costs of each subject/unit, do I have the option of paying some of my CSP Contribution for one year, and "HECSing" the rest of it?

yes, you can do that. however, they assume that whatever you do in first year is what you'll be doing throughout your degree, so to get them to change your payment option in the middle of your degree i guess you'd have to go and talk to someone at the student centre at the start of second year or whenever.
