For me, first one was a lucky guess that happened to be right, then i noticed something and got it right the second roll and so on from there

same... once u got it right it was easy to figure out
for some reason i just thought it was 10 so i put it in and was right
and then i realised y it was 10

i can't do cryptic crosswords either.

the "smarter" thing is just to do with people (like myself) who are way too smart for their own good. they think "oh, if this thing is so hard i'm having trouble with it, the solution must be really complicated." they think of more and more complicated formulas and then get frustrated when they don't work. whereas people who are used to thinking more laterally will look at the bigger picture.

I think it depends what frame of mind you're in when you start the game as to how long it will take you to figure it out. I doubt it has much to do with intellegence or maths ability.
