in class we didnt do the prac for the dot point "choose equipment and perform a first-hand investigation to identify the pH of a range of salt solutions" could anyone help me out by telling me the pH of some common salt solutions? i know if they are basic, acidic or neutral but dont know the actual pH values. any help would be greatly appreciated!!

does it matter, u just need to know what basic, acidic and neutral salts are made of...
eg weak base = strong base and weak acid
weak acid = strong acid and weak base
neutral either - strong base ad strong acid and weak base and weak acid.

hope it helps :)

ok :)

STRONG acid + STRONG base = neutral salt

STRONG acid + WEAK base = acidic salt

WEAK acid + WEAK base = neutral salt

WEAK acid + STRONG base = alkaline salt

Strong acids: eg. HCl, H2SO4, HNO3
Weak acids: eg. CH3COOH
Strong bases: eg. NaOH, KOH (anything with metals, really)
Weak bases: eg. NH3

wk + wk is very ambiguous... being very generous of bos, they will usually nto trick u in asking u to titrate wk acid vs wk base...

weak + weak is ambiguous but generally the results are taken as strong + strong titration
ie. a neutral salt

of course not :p
because the end point of weak + weak is hard to identify and you can see from the graph that weak + weak is stupid. :D

sorry, but i disagree... it does not have to be....

but for all of the purpose of hsc, u don't need to know the equivalence pt of wk acid+wk base...
