hows everyone studying for this exam we have tomorrow?

i've just printed out all the lecture overheads and im gonna read over them and write things i remember. usually the exams only require a basic knowledge over the broad range of topics so im finding this is probably the best way to go around it.

considering i've never done the reading apart from my essay topics, this is probably the only way i'll have a chance of knowing anything about the other subjects. 40 pages of dot point lecture notes is a lot easier than around 300 pages of hard text.

with all the penalties i may receive, this exam may very well decide whether i pass or not.

I'm in the same boat as you. Didnt do any of the readings (didnt even purchase the 2nd reader) apart from the ones on my essay topic. So I'm also relying on the lecture notes, besides they said that that is basically all you need to know. Havent started studying yet, have all night and all of tomorrow morning so that should be more than adequate to pass- its only 20% anyway.

ah its nice to know other people are in the same boat

dazed how could you have done the second essay without the second reader? all the topics involved stuff from the second reader and you couldn't use the first one at all. i realized this a bit too late and had to go out and buy the second reader on the day the second essay was due, read up on it and then write. hahah awful

ah well........i'll start studying soon.......pleeeeeeeeeeeeeenty of time til the exam. yay its not early in the morning either. i can sleep in! brilliant

Haha, i used two lines in the philosophy essay from the reader.

It was pretty useless, just went and did a search for other books in the reserve section

just want to start studying and was wondering, are you guys just going to study 1 topic from each of the four sections and just risk that you may not be able to answer the question associated to it? Or you going to learn everything?

I did euthanasia and terrorism for the essays, so im fairly confident on Part 2/3.

Part 1 is somewhat easy, with its harm/abortion thing just gotta remember the philosophers.

Part 4 is the shitter, i hated environmental ethics and will continue to do so.

haha i dont even know if im going to bother with knowing the philosophers, they should you dont really need to know names, but i guess will familiar with them would be beneficial.
I did death for the first essay so that is alright plus abortion is one of those, ill bullshit until i fill all the lines, type of topics.
Suicide/euthanasia are similar to abortion so i think ill just decide depending on which question looks easier. You did your essay on euthanasia? Is there any philosophers of specific concepts apart from the types of euthanasia that you would recommend knowing?
i did war for the second essay so all is good with that
and environmentalism, screwed to the shithouse. So really i should study that one, but seems like ill avoid it until about 12 tomorrow when ill have no choice but to read over the notes.

ah we have til 1:50 pm! hahahah awesome.

dazed i think it might be important to remember philosophers names.

questions are sometimes like "compare lucretius and nagel's view on death as a harm"

or "what are some objections to gandhian non-violence"

last night and this morning i just sat down with the lecture overheads and wrote the philosophers names and briefly what they thought so i can handle the stupid philosopher specific questions.

i found it ok to. but i must do bad in exams and the second essay because in philosophy courses i always get a distinction in the first essay, then wind up with like a 59 overall at the end of the course.

to see the truth of my assumption i went and actually picked up my second essay after the exam for the first time.......and yep....bingo.....big ole P. now im guessing a 50% in the exam. and with my 9 out of 20 for journals.....boy the final result will be close.

what i don't get is that i put in the same (minimal) effort the whole course, but for some reason my first essays always do well then i do bad in the second essay and the exam. weird. i can't complain, personally if i were a marker i'd fail me in an instant.

ah well...its finally over............no more exams!

yeah i found the exam good. I'm glad i didnt study any more than i did because that would have been a big waste of time and then i would have been pissed off.
Why is it that philosophy exams are so short. They are 1 1/2 hours as it is but you just dont need that much time.
Bullshitting skills came in handy, not to say that i will do well because i always do shit in things i thought were ok and do better in things that i found hard. Figure that one out.
