I was just wondering if anyone could help me analyse the song lyrics to Bob Dylan's "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" in regard to physical journeys? I know that it explains a journey ("I've walked and I've crawled over six crooked highways...."), but I'm not quite sure what to say the theme would be! Please Help Somebody!
I'm also going to do Stand By Me for this stupid assignment but I need one more other text (i.e. a poem, novel, magazine article etc.) that is also about a physical journey of some kind! And I was just wondering if the book "The Outsiders" could be used (you know the part where Ponyboy and Johnny Cade run away and bleach their hair)? Please Help! I'm so dumb! :)

post the lyrics up and i will help as much as i can.
Ive only seen the movie 'the outsiders' but it is on a list ive seen of texts you can use.

If you want another song 'the wasted years' by van morrison is quite good, its about how taking a journey made the persona realise that they have been wasting their life in not listening to others and staying in denial, they then resolve to open themselves up to the world and their relationships with others ('ill make sure baby theres no more wasted yesturday')

What is your percribed text? i would need to know that to help you relate you related material to the themes of that text.

You need to make sure that the related material you use has either the same theme, or a similar character or even a contrasting character or ideal than your perscribed text.
i hope this helps ^^

If you take a look in this thread : http://community.boredofstudies.org/showthread.php?t=25471 there should be some.
Without Wings posted these:
Music
Wide Open Spaces/Dixie Chicks
She's Leaving Home/The Beatles
Tori Amos/Most Recent Album
Horse with No Name/America
Hotel California/Eagles
Journeyman/Eric Clapton
Sweet Home Alabama/Lynard Skynard
Born to Run/Bruce Springsteen
A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall/Bob Dylan
Telegraph Road/Dire Straits
Space Oddity/D. Bowie
Running on Empty/J. Browne
Homeward Bound/Simon and Garfunkel.

Personally, i used 'the wasted years' by van morrison for my essay and it worked very well. its about someone who finally begins to realise that the journey thye have undertaken has changed thme from someone who is distant and doesnt care about others to someone who realises the need for family and friends and for positive thinking.
It relates extremely well to gwen in away.

Im sure a simple search on google for "physical journey" song would come up with something?

Also, if your looking for a documenary, 'between a rock and a hard place' is a very good book which is a true story, about that guy who had to chop his arm off. has pictured too.

But, if your still lost, please use the search button and take a look around, there are a lot of posts like yours of people looking for certain things, and if you look around you will find plenty of answers before you choose to post ^^

Here's the lyrics for A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall by Bob Dylan:

I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked highways
I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests
I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans
I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, what did you see, my blue eyed son ?
And what did you see, my darling young one ?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin'
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin'
I saw a white ladder all covered with water
I saw ten thousand takers whose tongues were all broken
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son ?
And what did you hear, my darling young one ?
I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin'
I heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world
I heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin'
I heard ten thousand whisperin' and nobody listenin'
I heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin'
Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter
Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, who did you meet my blue-eyed son ?
Who did you meet, my darling young one ?
I met a young child beside a dead pony
I met a white man who walked a black dog
I met a young woman whose body was burning
I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow
I met one man who was wounded in love
I met another man who was wounded and hatred
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

And what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son ?
And what'll you do now my darling young one ?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin'
I'll walk to the deepths of the deepest black forest
Where the people are a many and their hands are all empty
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison
Where the executioner's face is always well hidden
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten
Where black is the color, where none is the number
And I'll tell and think it and speak it and breathe it
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin'
But I'll know my songs well before I start singin'
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

I was planning on using these lyrics for one of my supplementary materials but am also finnding it hard to analyse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the english staff at my school have advised heavily against using song lyrics for the HSC, apparently they dont hold enough textual integrity and whatnot to be used as a standalone support text.

In our trials, there were about 5 people who used song lyrics and they all recieved band 4 and below.. that may not have been a direct result of their support text but im just saying. be careful, and if you HAVE to use a song, make sure the lyrics are meaningful, and at least ask your teacher
