Honestly those that are curious enough to go beyond the syllabus to answer their questions are in the best position both in the hsc and afterward if they pursue a related career, there’s so much to physics that even though the course feels too full in year 12 it doesn’t even scratch the surface.
unfortunately from what ive seen uni level physics looks like hell on earth 😞

These solutions all fucking suck. Why the fuck are they all mentioning a formula that has absolutely zero relevance? You can't fucking apply this formula as IT IS not a fucking loop. "uM AkTuaLLy, According to 3 = -N..." -🤓.

I basically said the same thing, yet legit lost 3 marks even though the only thing I missed was "converted into heat" but that's because I mentioned "total mechanical energy is dissipated" (which is a technical term for energy lost to heat anyway) and didn't mention an unrelated formula.

Mentioning faraday law is not the same as quoting a useless formula lol. They should've deducted marks for quoting the formula since that formula is only applicable for loops. I fucking hate how you have to quote unapplicable formulas just to get marks.

Alternative solutions also quote the power formula P = I^2 R, this is literally for fucking circuits, not eddy currents 💀

For HSC 2021 Q26b is the sample response the only possible answer or can we have other acceptable answers as well?

I wrote to use another point which lies on the line of best fit but isn't an experimental data point since that will take into account the overall trend of all the experimental data.

Is that still correct and worth 3 marks?

its essentially the same thing as using the point (0,0) and finding gradient so yeah i'd think that's fine

Better to write the gradient, since nowadays we use technology and things like the least squares regression line calculate the gradient directly, which you can use to find h.

It works whenever there is a current, of which eddy currents are one

A dumb question...But is the work required to increase an object from lower to higher orbit the change in total energy or the change in GPE? Is this different from just increasing the height of a object from say r1 to r2 , in which case the work done is the change in GPE?

Total change in energy.

To go to a higher orbit, it’s just a change in gpe, but to actually maintain that orbit, you have to account for speed as well.

F = m a
[N] = [kg][m/s²]

1 N could mean 1 kg accelerates at 1 m/s²

20 N could mean 1 kg accelerates at 20 m/s²

20 N could also mean 20 kg accelerates at 1 m/s²
