Hey guys, whats the best thing to treat pimples. I dont usually have pimples, but when i have one, it stays there for a few days and then it kinda leaves a "scar" (like a purplish/black/pinkish spot)

How can i get rid of those?
What do you guys use to precent pimples and have such smooth skin???:(
How to tighten pores?

I have tried that garnier Night thingy but still doesnt work.

How long do the 'scars' last or if they don't go how long have you had them? If you're getting permanent scarring you should probably go to a doctor who might give you a referral to a dermatologist.

Just use a facial cleanser and moisturise every day if it's nothing major. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash is good.

Go to www.acne.org - it will give you lots of advice and there is message boards, also a page about the myths and real facts about acne. It will also answer your question about your 'scars' after the spot has disappeared. :)

generally the process for getting rid of acne / pimples comes in three steps.

1) over the counter products

pretty self explanatory, ranges from simlpe creams, cleansers etc to more "miracle" workers such as pro-activ.

generally, if the acne is hormone induced these products will be pretty much ineffective.

2) (low strength) prescription medication

once all options of over the counter treatments have been exhausted, the next step is to approach your gp about solutions. from what i am aware, there are several medications available. these include:

- the pill (notably diane)
- prescription creams (such as differin)
- other tablets

some gps may prescribe cream + tablets, i know a few people who use differin and the pill, others a medication known as "vibratabs" and differin.

3) (high strength) prescription medication / referral to a specialist

once step 2 has failed, i assume a gp will refer you to a skin specialist, my gp said that the third step also normally involves a high strength medication such as roaccutane

thanks Born Dancer! do you think having adequate sleep and a balanced diet would help though? (I read in a book that says pimples are not caused by eating certain food such as chocolate, fried food etc but I think it certainly is influenced by them to some extent!)

I reccomend Neutrogena Oil-free Acne Wash. Your supposed to use it as a facewash, but its much more affective rubbing into your skin and just leaving it there. It'll make your face dry for a few days, but the results are worth it.

^ Not just a balanced diet, but a CLEAN diet ie. mainly raw, unprocessed foods, little salt or sugar, almost no junk food.

Food doesn't cause bad skin directly because I think that's determined by genetics. If you have naturally clear skin then eating junk food will not suddenly give you pimples, but if you're prone to pimples then a bad diet will only make it worse.

It's like when people detox. Their skin literally glows.

I agree......but when I'm too hungry (which happens like everyday, I have an insatiable appetite) I just grab whatever's there....hehehe sounds scary
alright, no more excuses for me!

or it's more generic version Oratane (sp?)

Roaccutane... is nasty stuff.

I was on that for 13 months, 3 pills a day. *Shudder*

It is definitely something you consider as a last resort and for extreme cases.

Next time grab a piece of fruit or a nuts instead! :) Honestly after awhile you won't even miss junk food.

Oratane is right:)
but yeah,
both oratance and roaccutane are nasty though, they work magic but they're nasty! and you'll either be a person who has very few side effects or you'll experience some really awlful shit. You have to get blood work done all the time to test liver function and you cant drink...and its pretty annoying...
but like said its worth it because then you look perrrrrrrrrty
