I keep on hearing conflicting comments so it'd be much appreciated if someone confirms this for me:

No matter what major people choose in 2nd year, the subjects they do in 1st year are ALL THE SAME. Correct?

If not, please correct me :)

I think that's the case... at least for UTS B Business and UNSW B Commerce. I'm pretty sure it's like that in most universities since they want you to sample everything before you pick your majors.

However, according to this link: http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/plans/2006/FINSA14733.html

if i want to do a finance major, i have to start doing these 4 compulsory finance subjects from 1st year:
FINS1612 Capital Markets & Institution (6 UOC)
FINS1613 Business Finance (6 UOC)
FINS2624 Portfolio Mgmt (6 UOC)
FINS3616 International Business Finance (6 UOC)
Are these subjects on top of the existing compulsory commerce subjects?:
• ACCT1501 Accounting & Financial Mgt 1A (6 UOC)
• ACCT1511 Accounting & Financial Mgt 1B (6 UOC)
• ECON1101 Microeconomics 1 (6 UOC)
• ECON1102 Macroeconomics 1 (6 UOC)
• ECON1202 Quantitative Methods A (6 UOC)
• ECON1203 Quantitative Methods B (6 UOC)

And if so, how overworked am i freakin going to be :(

No no Airness.

The core subjects:
ACCT1501 Accounting & Financial Mgt 1A (6 UOC)
• ACCT1511 Accounting & Financial Mgt 1B (6 UOC)
• ECON1101 Microeconomics 1 (6 UOC)
• ECON1102 Macroeconomics 1 (6 UOC)
• ECON1202 Quantitative Methods A (6 UOC)
• ECON1203 Quantitative Methods B (6 UOC)

..add up to 36 UOC (you do 48UOC typically in 1st year)
so that means each semester you have to choose an elective, and in this case, in S1 you'd do FINS1612, and in S2 - FINS1613

2624 and 3616 are left for later years.

Wait you mean we have to pick electives in first year for later on? Like Business Law or Finance?

(NB. I'm talking about B Comm @ UNSW)

Airness - Oh! alright, well your program is set in 1st year, you do all the Commerce core units and the two Law subjects in first year. You start picking your finance electives in 2nd year.

seremify - Well, in first year, you do 4 subjects a semester (in most cases). 3 subjects are the core subjects, and the 1 subject is the free elective. You should pick a subject that relates to your planned major/s

would that also apply to other double degrees, i got offered Bcom/Bsci at usyd, so i am really confused about choosing units of study as i heard that both Bcom and Bsci both have a common first yr of study.....
would this case apply if i want to apply for a 2nd yr transfer?

I'm unsure about the core subjects at Usyd. Repost your question in the UsyD forum
