Is it true that there are several tests year 12 does ( I think one is called "RET") which boost your UAI ??? Please explain how this works. I need a UAI of 98 + to get into med, and since i havent studied at all in the prelim (I actually failed ALOT), do you think I have a chance?
The subjects i do are:
Physics
Chem
PD/H/PE
Eng Adv
Mathematics
Studies Of Religion 1unit
Thanks.

There is no way to artificially "boost" your UAI.

However, there are a number of avenues and access schemes for tertiary study which consider students below the published cut-off. Regional Entry Tests (or RETs) are general literacy, numeracy and reasoning skills tests which are used by some universities to attract certain categories of students (even though their UAIs may be below the published cut-offs).

For example, info on the RET at UWS:
http://www.uws.edu.au/about/adminorg/academic/oar/info/admissions/regionalentrytests

Entry to Medicine is extremely competitive. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to bypass any of the assessment criteria through RETs or access schemes. You should contact your desired university directly for more information.

There is no test that will boost your UAI.

To get into Medicine, you'd need to sit a UMAT test as well as an interview following it if you have passed the test.

Any subject combination can lead you to a high UAI, you just need to perform well in them, so don't worry whether your subject scales lowly or not.

RET dosnt really boost anything,.......u need to get a higher RET score then ur UAI and that particular instituion will use ur RET score instead.....but i think the max is 89.....and theres a catch, u have to apply to do a course at the particular instituition......
and i dont think it is applicable for med.....u hafta be a smarty to do med

What does the UMAT actually do?
I called UNSW yesterday and they told me that they're looking for anyone with a UAI of over 95%, but last year only UAI of 98% achievers we're accepted for interview. Will the UMAT help with acceptance?
