I have an essay question "the Journey Not the arrival matters". Texts are Coleridge's "Frost at Midnight", Frost's "The Road Not Taken" and my ORM "To the Cuckoo" by Wordworth (below). Am stuck on techniques. can someone pls read this and help me!!? Even the slightest thing would be so much appreciated.

O blithe newcomer! I have heard,
I hear thee and rejoice:
O Cuckoo! shall I call thee bird,
Or but a wandering Voice?

While I am lying on the grass
Thy twofold shout I hear;
From hill to hill it seems to pass,
At once far off and near.

Though babbling only to the vale
Of sunshine and of flowers,
Thou bringest unto me a tale
Of visionary hours.

Thrice welcome, darling of the Spring!
Even yet thou art to me
No bird, but an invisible thing,
A voice, a mystery;

The same whom in my schoolboy days
I listened to; that Cry
Which made me look a thousand ways
In bush, and tree, and sky.

To seek thee did I often rove
Through woods and on the green;
And thou wert still a hope, a love;
Still longed for, never seen!

And I can listen to thee yet;
Can lie upon the plain
And listen, till I do beget
That golden time again.

O blessed birth! the earth we pace
Again appears to be
An unsubstantial, fairy place,
That is fit home for Thee!

I'm doing the same. Essay on that question. And I agree with kimmeh. Our teacher recommended that you get three different type of related material. That is, one poem, one autobiography and one novel. Or a newspaper article. Having them all as poems is not right.

Thanks i have thought of this myself. So many ppl in my class are doing a poem for their orm - its actually what our teacher suggested. id really rather not change my orm. and when we got the essay my teacher also suggested either road not taken or journey to the interior...both poems. I forgot to mention im doing imaginative journeys...so there isnt much else in the stim book that will work. i think im stuffed..lol

Lol you have no idea how hard i looked. theres heaps for wordsworth but not that poem. Yeah im using the road not taken. it can be entirely metaphorical if you want to interpret it that way. So the essay was due today but i got the weekend.

So can anyone help? lol

But omg how is the Road Not Taken imaginative???
Sorry r@ch I can't exactly help you on this but I know there is a study guide calls 'Journey - The stimulus booklet' published by Five Senses Publication. It has everything stimulus bookelt texts in it with analysis covers all 3 types of the journey. The analysis covers the techniques used and how it related to the imaginative journey. I remembered they have a page long analysis on The Road Not Taken with Imaginative Journey. It costs less than $10, or your school library or local library would have it. Hope this helps :)

yeh most study guides r shit bcoz they r usually irrelevant to the hsc syllabus howeva, i found Suzan Patinson's Top Notes: Coleride guide to the AOS relatively useful...consider it, im sure its available in libraries, but by no means rely on it u shud come up with ur own orginal ideas.
