Apparently brainstorming is considered offensive to people with brain disorders such as epilepsy as well those with brain tumours or brain injuries.

The word that DETI officials will use instead of Brainstorming will be ‘thought-showers’, which might be offensive to the terminally smelly, or those who are in a coma, but at least they are not golden.

It's interesting to note that it would be essentially impossible to completely remove the possibility of offense from speech, and anybody who's read 1984 might be wondering if we should even if we could.

i think that political correctness has gone 2 far, way 2 far, i can see the need to not use words such as fag, nigger, retard, etc....but stopping christmas decorations, changing words like this is just ludicrous

It hasn't bothered me because I will continue to say what I want regardless of whether it is politically correct or not. It's more funny than anything.

I think that for political correctness the "reasonable person" test they use in law should apply. If a reasonable person would find something offensive, then people should maybe be a bit more PC. I agree with Asqy about sexism and racism, but most other things are taking it too far.

but i think u should have a right to say whatever u want, especially general and generic stufff - racism, sexism, pornography etc etc - people should grow up and stop fighting over bull shit.

there is that situations with that religious dude in melbourne i think he said some stufff about muslims and they took him to caught to make him apologise or something.

There should be no laws against freee speach, maybe like defamation of indivuals etc is an exception in some cases. But generally you should be able to say anything.

did any one catch a story during the weeeek - it was about web sites in england relating to the england bombing - maybe anti government sites or something, i sort of only heard the end of the story, but i had the impression the australian government was going to possibly look at censoring sites from having anti government etc etc or pro terrorism speach?

As an epileptic (ie, someone who actually does have a 'brain disorder'), I can honestly say it's never crossed my mind to be offended by the phrase 'brainstorm'.

Even though what actually happens in the brain during a grand mal seizure actually is kind of like a storm. An electrical storm. Hm. How literal.

Haha... I don't know where the fuck he got that from? People have heaps different triggers and stuff though for all the different types of seizures so maybe one side of the brain was... different? I'm not a med student though, I know stuff about epilepsy only to the extent that I was researching my own condition.

Out of curiosity, can all epileptics drive with medication? Or do you have a milder form of epilepsy (if there is such a thing).

oh, a girl at my school had epilepsy, and when she had a fit people had to run for a female teacher, because the male teacher was scared he'd get sued.
