I had to read this for Ext1, and I finally got around to finishing it. Who's read it? What did you think? I found it difficult to get into, but it was a good read once I did. The only thing was that there was SO much intertextuality (with the poems at the beginning of the chapters etc) that I often just skipped it over.

Is this the book that was made into the movie? Or am I on a completely different tangent? :p

I HATED it. I did it for ext.1 as well and I never got through it coz it was too painful. The bit in the middle with about 60 pages of letters was the most boring thing I've ever read. I ended up giving up on it and writing on the others coz I couldn't bring myself to finish it.

As a consequence I haven't seen the movie either :p

Hey; I recently finished it. Im guessing you guys did it in conjunction with 'The French Lieutenant's Woman' too? - Thats the book I studied it with, and I have to say in that context it was the lesser of two evils!

I dont love to read poetry at the best of times but I liked the classic stories that were in the book.

Apparently the movie is very average. VERY average.

Anyway, for assessment on this module we had to present a tutorial on 'The postmodern view of Romance' which had me majorly stressed but I did get a perfect score on it. Postmodernism is an interesting study and im glad im doing it instead of like crime fiction or that SPORT one.

Ohkay cool.

I did Orlando too, what did you think of the movie? I wasnt inspired to write about the movie, or even talk about it so Im trying to avoid it in an exam.

I get the feeling I shouldve loved it.........

i skipped over a lot of it

i love the ending though. it reminded me how i really love language. actually, i think that's something the english course neglects to do - it forgets the beauty of language.
