Hey all,

I don't normally buy many items of clothing, I'm a bit stingy that way. I'm normally really good at talking myself out of buying things unless I LOVE them rather than just like them (useful technique because as I get older I notice myself beelining towards more and more expensive clothes :S Although I guess many of us are going through this, oui?)

Anyway. Today I just splashed out for the first time in a long time - only hit about $250 for three items of clothing (and some of that is on layby) but that's a lot for me, considering it's not spent on formalwear or anything.

I wasn't expecting to buy anything today but I LOVE these clothes. I don't regret buying them but admittedly am a little worried about the rest of the week... what if unexpected expenses crop up etc etc. And that got be thinking to a line from SATC: "I just spent all my rent money on shoes!" or something like that. Why is it that when we see something we love, we want it there and then? Probably because we don't want someone else to grab it instead :p

But meh. I'm alternating between euphoria - "ooohhh pretty clothes, pretty clothes!" and panic - "omg I spent so much money today!" right now.

So girls (and guys), have you ever spent a lot of money on clothes when you didn't plan to (whatever "a lot of money on clothes" means to you), why did you do it, and how did you feel afterwards?

If you have any stories to share please do!

Put them on, prance around in front of the mirror, and admire how hot you look. Then work out what worse things you could have wasted your money on. Then admire said clothing some more.

What's the harm in the occasional binge buying session? Like you, I don't spend much on clothes usually, but occasionally I just like to splurge and treat myself to expensiveness for the sake of it. Don't worry about it. Just enjoy your new fancy sexy purchases.

I come from a stingy asian background where the idea of buying clothes because they look good (when you don't "need" them per se) is basically contraband. Now that I work and earn money of my own/now that mum isn't as uptight as she used to be, it's not so bad, but when it's been grilled into you as a kid that you shouldn't buy things unless you need them, it sticks. :(

Going off to try on one of my purchases now ;) thanks for the words of advice, girls!

i'm like that.. if i'm in love with something, i'll buy it rather than putting it on laybuy because i want it now now now! I've done it with a pair of jeans.. put it on laybuy - because i only had just enough for them in my everyday account, then ended up driving back to the shops that day , with money from my savings to buy them

i felt guilty for about 20 milliseconds, then i put the jeans on and felt great <3

i always try to have a backup stash of cash so if anything comes up i'm not completely screwed.

think about how long the item will last. things like jeans for me last ages so i dont mind spending money on them. but still i think clothes are overpriced. their alot more expensive than what i used to pay for them.

Don't feel guilty, you deserve a treat every now and then. :)

I was in Louis Vuitton the other week and overheard a gentleman paying for his purchases - they totalled (approx.) $130,000, no kidding.

I too, prance around in my newly purchased, expensive clothing to stop the guilt from flowing in - ALWAYS works! Sometimes, I get happy just thinking about where or when I'd wear it too!

Someone else agree that they do the latter as well, so I don't feel so weird!

Yes, I like to imagine all the cool places I could wear said clothing. But it's too bad I never end up wearing most of my best clothes....because I suck.

I think about what I am looking for and what I want to buy before I go shopping. Then I go looking for what I want (or whatever fits the description the best). If it is something expensive, I have to really think about if I want or need it, then I may or may not return to the store for it. I have quite a bit of self control. Actually, I do this for all clothes I buy. I don't want to have something sitting in my wardrobe not being worn, but if something like this were to happen, I can give the clothes I've only worn a couple of times to my sister, so I always win.
