The massive Latham/Liverpool government thing was seriously damaging. I was surprised at the amount of people who said, "Latham couldn't even run Liverpool"

Some people's ignorance astounds me.

Labor had much to play with from the past... But, by and large, they adopted a positive campaign. Sadly, politics is far too important to be fair in your actions.

labor have a fucking huge stockpile of ammunition for a smear campaign but they didn't run it
a positive message for health and education reform isn't what australia wants right now

can anyone even tell me big plans that the liberal government have for the next term?
it seems like they've kept power for the sake of it...

This result literally scares me. It scares me to think about what the future of Australia will be... I am also scared that Bush will get reelected in the states.

You only have to look at who wins reality TV shows to see that Australians are quite stupid....

Yeah I thought Labor failed to push any kind of really shocking campaign which meant that whilst the Liberal ads etc pissed me off, I can remember how they went. I don't remember what happened in any of the Labor ads.

oh i was aware of it.
i am very happy with the result.

the ALP has been gutted due to foolish policy decisions and poorly thought out campain speeches by Latham himself. The silly man told the media how he hated the libs, how he was teaching his kids to hate... hate the bad things like discrimination mind you. That's really not the fella i want running the country.

i dont think he's become a seasoned leader at all, sorry all you Latham advocates. he let the party down, bigtime.

when it comes down to it, you only need a leadership change when things are wrong. i dont see anything wrong.. well, nothing that requires a leadership change

iraq... we should never have gone in, but we did. we're there. we cant leave, or the terrorists win and it will collapse into anarchy. i doubt that the ALP would have refused to aid america. its easy to damn in retrospect, but at the time there was a lot of pressure.

asylum seekers... catch-22. we're damned if we do, we're damned if we dont. we let them in and more follow, we dont... and we have to detain them. you cant immigrate without using the proper channels, i dont care if you dont know the channels, learn them! ignorance is not a defence. they should enter like anyone else.

lies: you expect a leader to tell the undiluted truth? you're crazy. dont tell me that Latham wouldnt lie, or that Bob Brown wouldnt lie.

interest rates: i love the way they became an issue. fallacious arguements, pure smear campain material. those election promises will only stand up if the economy keeps going well.

the economy: argue till you're blue in the face but if u want things, you need a good economy. why? so that these things can be provided to you and so that you can have a job so that you can afford these things, wether they be goods or services. economics comes into it kids and i wouldnt want to give up Howard and Costello when they're in the middle of making Australia even bigger and even better.

are there other major issues? hrm.... i was just thinking of one...

oh yes.
education: so HECS has gone up, it was inevitable. i dont know if they indexed it to inflation before, but with so many more university places demanded, it was getting costly for the government to fund such things. at least you have HECS, you whinging bastards. what about in the poor 3rd world country where they cant get into uni, let alone with govt assistance? where's your bleeding heart now? seriously, folks... HECS has not been increased everywhere for one, and why should you not pay more for such a service? i dont put a price tag on my life and nor should you. you should all be happy that you have universities that you can attend. i'd pay any amount to have a decent degree.

but what about full-fee payers?
if i came up to you and offered you $50 for your bike and then someone else came up and offered you $50 to be paid by your mother, who you will pay back in installments when this other person makes over $10 per week from his paper route using the bike... would you sell it to him, or to me? its bleeding obvious that the unis want to see their money right up and its also obvious that the 'mother' should be able to spend her money on other things, like hospitals and schools.

medicare:
they'd be foolish to dismantle this. i guess we'll see.

re twisted & education

its all very good and well to say 'i'm willing to pay anything for uni just because i have the opportunity' when you have the money. realistically the majority of australians don't. education is a right, and whilst i agree its not economically viable to offer it for free, the system should accomodate for the fact that not everyone lives in the top income brackets. just because my mum's a checkout chick and my dad's dead doesn't mean i shouldn't be able to afford higher education

Yay!!! Happy the Howard Government is still government, but I'm disappointed that they gained the majority in the Senate. Hopefully, Howard won't be stupid and pass all kinds of crazy shit.
