uh-oh.... i'll be doing beginners french, and also chinese studies at the same time- is that a really bad idea? Has anyone heard anything about majoring in two languages? Cos i'm mostly interested in languages, i'm not really an english/history person.
I am :). Though I virtually have to, but that's not the reason. If it's your thing than that might be a good path to go down.

S1:
MUSC 1506 - Music in Western Culture
FRNC 1301 - Advanced French 1
GRMN 1211 - Junior Intermediate German 1
LNGS 1001 - Structure of Language

S2:
MUSC 1501 - Concepts of Music
FRNC 1302 - Advanced French 2
GRMN 1222 - Junior Intermediate German 2
LNGS 1002 - Language and Social Context, or
FRNC 1701, 1702 - Modern French Civilisation.

Still torn... Waiting for 5 August to decide :D.

A small piece of advice to the first year students - changing the units in which you are enrolled is not difficult, so maybe attend the first two weeks of lectures for units which interest you, then you can make up your minds.
Yeah, that's what one of the lecturers in MacLaurin said today too :D. Sounds like a good idea...

BTW, how's Bec going, frenchie :D..........

Hey Chepas

I did FRNC1701/1702 and found them to be reaaaaally enjoyable, although not really essential to the French Studies course. There is no French language acquired, mainly because those units are open to anyone in the Uni.

Can I meet you? ;), you may be serious competition to my Bec-made label 'french boy'. Hehehe.

Bec is eternally brilliant.

EDIT: Chepas, should I take it from your signature que tu es un fan de Lynda Lemay? How nice to hear of a person equally obsessed with all facets of la culture française, even to the point of complete nerd-dom. Bless your croissants.

1) Ah k. I had a crisis of choice yesterday, phoning about 3 people for advice and talking to the lecturers around the hall, and they all couldn't really make the choice for me hehe. What were the Mod French Civilisation units like? The Handbook mentions a bit on th em, but not terribly much. From where in France's history does it start/finish?

2) Yes yes. :) I always mention you on MSN with Bec and am also dying of curiosity as to how there could be other franco-obsessed people! Yay!

3) Good good. An opinion she also shares of you, j'en suis sûr.

4) TU CONNAIS LYNDA LEMAY AUSSI!!?!!?!???? My god! If you do, !!!! She's my FAVOURITE singer/performer/songwriter etc person in the WORLD. (Même jusqu'a` ce que je demande a` mon ancien prof français d'enregsitrer quelques emissions diffusées a` la télé franco de la satellite! Elle est sympa, elle les enregistre tout le temps!). But yes, quant a` mes croissants who are French-nerds. C'est moi :uhhuh:. Especially the French-speaking Canada, Québec etc... My obsession... AND USYD ISN'T OFFERING THAT UNIT THIS YEAR FOR SENIOR STUDY! No more FRNC3712 - Quebec :(. Only Switzerland as a 2XXX unit... But that is years away hehe...

Chepas!

FRNC1701/1702 normally has about 8-12 people enrolled in each unit.

FRNC1701 explores the evolving notion of french national identity. early France....Charlemagne and all that lot, fair bit of time on the Revolution and napoleonic era.

FRNC1702 is a continuation of the above. 1830-present (found this more interesting)

basically you give a class presentation on a particular topic related to that weeks readings....I spoke for about 30mins on Le Front National, so basically I can shower you with french nationalistic rhetoric if you wish. class participation and an essay.

A plus tard!

ps: during interrogation of Bec she lauded you as 'French boy-genius'. Very high status you have acquired in her thoughts. :)

Oooh... Learned tertiaryness! I'm still agog at the FN thanks to Extension.... (damn Dédé and his voting!), but yes... Was there anything connected to la Bretagne and some sort of distinct culture/Basque areas in the Pyrenées, and seperation? Seperation fascinates me...

But a 30 min presentation! Wow. The skills we get in uni! :lostandconfusedandworried:

Hey welshi :waves:.
