Philo: Nay, but this dotage of our General's
O'erflows the Measure: those his goodly Eyes.
That o'er the Flies and Musters of the War
Have glo'd liked plated Mrs, now bend, now turn

The Office and Devotion of their View,
Upon a Tawny Front; his Captain's Heart,
Which in the scuffles of great Fights hath
Burst
The buckles on his Breast, reneges all Temper,
And is become the Bellows and Fan
To cool a Gipsy's list

after readin the dialogue by Philo.. i need to write a 500 word response to the followin question.. philo's diaglogue reflects Roman values and attitudes. how do these attitudes and values complicate the power relationships in the play?

Rome is at war, and is viewed as a military army style country in contrast to Egypt. There, lovers Antony and Cleo keep exchanging sexual innuendo .'. Egypt is seen as luxurious and a lover's paradise.

Explain how there is so much love exchanged in egypt but in rome, there is only war and military decisions being made.

.'. Philo's dialogue represents the values of rome b/c, at that moment, rome is not the romantic country.

Do you get what I mean? I hope I explained it well enough, I just learnt in class today :p

rome is in binary with egypt. rome represents patriachry and order and egypt hedonism and sexual power.
so clearly, philo is wondering wth their general is doing with the queen of hedonism?
how does it complicate matters? well, because the soldiers rely on following their leader. clearly rome will be destroyed if cleopatra wins over antony. and who will the romans have to look up to? antony is clearly obsessed. notice how philo makes the distinction between before and after antony.
hope that helps :)
