I have not done a Physics practical exam ..

But from Chemistry practical exam experience,
if you're dishonest, look at the person's results beside you.
But I assume you are not, do the opposite and stay far away from others.

Don't talk to other students ...

Most important,
turn up early ?

If the practical occurs after lunch for example, turn up in the second half ... saved a LOT of time for me :)

they should hav instructions about what you need to do... i.e apparatus, mathode, aim etc i think, but they should tell you wat topic its about, so atleast read through some back ground information about it, even though you might not need i. its better to be safe. :)

Some of the things they often like to test are (although you should have a notification sheet which has all this rubbish on it)

  • assess impact of advances in physics on society and environment
  • justify appropriateness of investigation plan
  • evaluates ways in which accuracy/reliability could be improved
  • uses terminology and reporting styles to communicate information
  • assesses validity of conclusions from collected data
  • explains why investigation is best carried out individually or as a team
  • identifies physical concepts (eg effects of magnetic fields, etc)
That's all the criteria we had for our practical assessment, although we didn't have to perform a full on experiment from scratch - a few things were already set up around the room and then we had to collect data from them.

Hope this helps

just read through the practicals in the textbook... then read through the practical writeups you did during the year, there realli isn't much to prepare for in a practical exam... hav good time management and just hav fun! ~~

some things i find asked quite often would be units for the gradient of the graph, significant figures and reliability questions ..

It's important to time manage, make sure you spread out the time effectively. Attempt all questions even if you don't know the answer. Reliability (how consistent your results are regardless of accuracy) can generally be improved by repeating the experiment. Validity is whether you are actually doing the experiment properly or not. Good luck.
