Right, got it now, answers still yes. You dont become a prefect for a stupid badge, the badge means absolutely jack shit. You become a prefect because you're peers and teachers feel you would represent the school well and you volunteer your time because you genuinely care about the school and you want to give something back to all those people who support you.

Much though you make me laugh, and envious (in incorporating the phrase 'petty bourgoisie bureacractic elitist scum' with hilarious ease) I also have to stand up for Prefect-hood. (That and I'm from the sister-school of Cinderweller. You should hear how they talk about their school captain, that was a mere taste of the propoganda that is to come)

I must admit, yes, the badge is nice, and a bit of a wank, and sure some people become a prefect to put on their resume and scholarship applications.However, I know that the time, effort and energy that my prefect body put into our school community is more than that and i respect it. I don't think i'm the most responsible or best leader, and frankly have no idea why i was voted in, but i respect the other prefects. We've all been doing stuff to put back into our school long before prefect elections rolled around. I don't know about other schools, but I have to defend the honour of my prefect body.
Your prefects/prefect system may suck, but i've been lucky, and everyone else on my prefect body is perfect for the job.
