Is it just me or are there alot of questions in the HSC tests that specifically refer to prelim work eg gantt charts which are not in the HSC syllabus. Would they commonly do this?

The HSC can test you on prelim work, as well as HSC work. Theres no reason why they can't. Its like you can't say they can't ask you to add numbers because you did it in primary school.

They cant specifically ask you to do prelim stuff but they can assume u know it...ie asking a question that requires prior prelim knowledge to answer...

lol so they arent allowed to ask "whats 2+2?" but they can ask u a question that requires u to know 2+ 2 (ie 26 * 24)...:D

Well this was a rather debated issue i believe, for example in our exam last year for class of 2003, what happened was, Hexadecimal conversion was definately taught in year 11 however, i don't think many people remembered or just didn't focus on it, primarily because it's touched up more in the Option Topi: Developer's view of hardware. What happened was many people thought it was rather unfair, since the people doing the other topic, i.e. Evolution of programming languages, was rather disadvantaged since they wouldn't of revised the 3 basic computer number systems.

True, most of the questions you will see in the HSC exams, may have been taught in Year 11, but they are stressed in a later stage in the Year 12 syllabus, taught as "given knowledge" and the consequent subjects are just applciations of the foundational knoweldege

In short, Year 11 work provides a solid bases for year 12 work. It is a prerequiste you should know it.
