There are several characteristics of religion that create a dynamic, living religion. These include belief and believers, sacred texts and writings, ethics, rituals and ceremonies.

A dynamic and living religion is one that responds to contemporary social issues with the times and remains relevant to changes in society. Teachings from sacred texts such as the Bible or Qur'an must be interpreted and adapted for the times. The practices or rituals such as Mass must also be refined and adjusted in order to keep believers or followers actively engaged. Ethics or moral codes must also be interpreted within today's society in order to address contemporary issues.
