The prelim work becomes assumed knowledge in year 12.
you won't be directly tested on it in the hsc but forming your answer to a question in the HSC may rely on you to recall on some of the work you did in year 11. an example off this is calculating moles in chemistry or knowing about the concept of osmosis/diffusion to answer questions about the kidneys in biology.

An exception to this is maths, which I think 30% of the HSC test can be formed from yr 11 content. as you do yr 12 maths this will become easier to remember anyway so it's not really a big deal about revising it. hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure it's 40% 2u and 30% 3u prelim can be asked in the HSC. You would study everything anyway - it's not that much extra.

And many of the concepts learnt later on require knowledge of preliminary material:
ie. coordinate geometry knowledge is required for angle between two lines, internal/external division of a line - probability is required for binomial probability, and a little perms and combs, etc etc.
